Hello :’)
Thank you for being here.
I’m Jessica, a curious creative & world explorer, the writer behind the lifestyle newsletter Artist & the City, where I explore the intersection of culture, travel, and creativity.
You’ll enjoy this newsletter if you’re:
a multi-hyphenate who has a multitude of interests
tired of social media & algorithms
interested in being a life-long scholar
an avid traveler (or interested in globcal culture)
a creative, entrepreneur, or remote worker
What is this newsletter about?
This newsletter is for curious people who want to learn, explore, and create through work and the world. At it’s core, it’s a lifestyle newsletter about the intersection of culture & travel. It’s also about creative philosphy & multidisciplinary creative work, essays & interviews that dissect the internet and IRL.
What I hope you’ll walk away with after reading is twofold: I hope you’ll stop to pause, to think twice about something that has been normalized in modern culture. And I hope you’ll embrace your curiosities, wherever and whatever they may be.
This newsletter is my meditation on culture and the world and will contain:
essays on current news, trends, & media (always free)
interviews with interdisciplinary artists and creatives
guides on how to live a more creative, thoughtful life
deep dives and guides focused on different parts of the world
reading lists & book clubs
personal essays on life, resistance, rebellion, mental health & all of the things I think are in tandem with a well-rounded life.
If that sounds good to you, please consider subscribing to join the community of conscious digital users, lifelong scholars & creative world builders here at Artist & the City.
Who am I?
My name is Jessica. I’m a second-generation El Salvadoran born and raised near LA. I have lived in Madrid, Spain for 5 years and am hoping to continue my personal goal of living on every continent (minus Antarctica) before I leave this Earth. As a multi-hyphenate person, I have a lot of interests, but it always seems to circle two things: cultures around the world and the different art forms within that.
When I’m not scouring socials for my next essay, I’m cooking, hiking, reading, or going to the movies. Some of my other writing on travel, culture, and identity can be found here.
